For many sons our father’s are their first superheroes, someone we look up to during our formative years. Tom Hanks’ character in Sam Mendes’ Road to Perdition is no exception, although whether the mafia hitman is a good influence on his offspring is another question entirely. Theirs is just one example of a film which seems obsessed with paternal relationships, an essay on the mark the father son dynamic can leave on later life.
