Directed by Martin Scorcese and written by Paul Schrader, Taxi Driver stars Robert De Niro as a lonely and alienated Vietnam vet who develops a dangerous obsession with a young prostitute, played by Jodie Foster. John Hinckley, Jr. later claimed that it was his obsession with Foster's role that made him attempt to assassinate Ronald Reagan in 1981.
