The Good Shepherd
2006 saw De Niro release The Good Shepherd, his first real attempt at directing since 1993. The film was a star-studded account of the history of the CIA which was beset by delays and received mixed reviews. 2007 saw De Niro join another impressive cast for the modern fairytale Stardust, playing cross-dressing pirate Captain Shakespeare. Both films proved to be box office failures, as did De Niro's much-anticipated reunion with Al Pacino, Righteous Kill (2008).
