1967 - Guess Who's Coming To Dinner
Poitier's third film of 1967 was Guess Who's Coming To Dinner - another classic drama about the attitude towards black people in the USA. It explored the topic of interracial marriage, showing the prejudiced response of two ostensibly liberal parents when their daughter introduces them to the black doctor she is dating. Guess Who's Coming To Dinner also won two Oscars that year. Between the three hit films, Poitier became the most successful actor at the box office that year - casting aside industry doubts that audiences would pay to see films with black leads.
