We've avoided most of Spielberg's "serious" films in our 3D fantasies, but Amistad, based on the true story of a shipboard uprising among newly captured slaves in the early 19th century, is one we'd like to see converted. With a stellar cast including Morgan Freeman, Anthony Hopkins, Djimon Hounsou, Matthew McConaughey and Anna Paquin, this epic film provides an important history lesson while engaging viewers with its action-packed story line.

Why 3D? The harrowing scenes on the slave ship, La Amistad, carrying its human cargo from West Africa to the New World would be amazing to see in three dimensions. Even the scenes in the Washington, D.C., of 1839 would be thrilling to watch, including the dramatic conclusion in which the kidnapped Africans finally win their freedom.
