As played by Ken Stott and Graham McTavish.

Dwalin and Balin are brothers, with Balin being the second eldest member of the Company of Dwarves after Thorin, and loosely holding the position of deputy leader. Balin is a descendant of nobility and was one of a group of dwarves to attempt to establish a colony in Moria, as we partly witnessed in The Lord of the Rings, when the Fellowship discovered his tomb in the mines with the inscription "Lord of Moria."

Dwalin is the first dwarf to arrive at Bag End in The Hobbit and is described in the book as wearing "a dark green hood and a golden belt and had a blue beard." After the events in The Hobbit, Dwalin rules Thorin's halls in the Blue Mountains and dies at the age of 340, which is very old even for a Dwarf.
