Breaking all the rules of normal acceptance speech etiquette, Fiona Apple bashed both MTV and the general entertainment industry when she went to collect her Moonman for Best New Artist at the 1997 VMAs. Overlooking the thanks to her parents, manager and fans, Fiona babbled: "This world is bullshit, and you shouldn't model your life on what we think is cool, and what we're wearing and what we're saying," before adding the Maya Angelou maxim, "Go with yourself. Go with yourself."
