Michael Caine was perfectly cast as British butler Alfred Pennyworth in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. The character offered a ray of light in the director’s otherwise pitch black take on the caped crusader, with Caine tasked with walking a fine line between caring guardian and comic reliever. It’s a role he reveled in. Ensuring that his bit part character remained every bit as memorable as the movie’s main man.
