Though Giorgio Moroder had originally approached Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks for this project, the collaboration with Blondie ultimately produced one of the band’s biggest hits. Debbie Harry claims she wrote the song in a few hours after being inspired by the film's opening scene of Richard Gere cruising around California in a convertible.
