The movie: The Graduate
The song: 'Mrs Robinson', Simon & Garfunkel

One of the first pop songs penned for a Hollywood movie, Simon & Garfunkel’s ditty about an older woman ended up on the soundtrack due to director Mike Nichols’ obsession with the duo’s music. After quite a bit of begging, Paul Simon agreed to rewrite this song originally penned in tribute to Eleanor Roosevelt.

Bonus knowledge: Baseballer Joe DiMaggio only gets a namecheck because he had the right amount of syllables in his name. Simon was actually a much bigger fan of Mickey Mantle.
