ABCD opens bigger than VISHWAROOP



Now this one has turned out to be a surprise very early in the year. ABCD, a film with a set of newcomers and Prabhudheva as the lead from down South, has found audience rooting for itself from content as well as footfalls perspective. In fact when compared to VISHWAROOP, which had another main lead from South, Kamal Haasan - a supremely bigger name by all proportions, ABCD has done much better while shrugging off all predictions whatsoever.

"It's the connect factor that has done the trick", says an insider, "This is one of those rare instances when television audience has rooted for a film to do so well in theatres as well. Remo is a huge name when it comes to judging dance shows on TV. Also, various dancers who have been roped in to act in the film are a household name. More than anything else it is the novelty factor that has done the trick."

While all these post facto comments are obviously making much sense than they could possibly have had before the film's release, the fact also remains that director Remo and his producers UTV are having the final laugh.

"The film has opened much better than Remo's directorial debut F.A.L.T.U. While that too was a box office success, its weekend collections of around 10 crores would be surpassed by ABCD in first two days of its release itself. As for the producers UTV, their conviction on backing small to medium budget films has paid off again," adds a source.

While the makers were hoping for some good acclaim, especially amongst the target junta of youngsters, the kind of moolah that has started flowing in is a good sign indeed for films that bring in new genre of their own. It's the uniqueness factor that has done the trick and with talks around sequel to ABCD heating up, one can well expect the next installment to hit the screens sooner than one could have expected.
