Abhishek, and not Arjun, may turn cop for MEERUT JUNCTION
If all goes as per plans, Abhishek Bachchan would be stepping in to play the part of a cop. This would be for a film titled MEERUT JUNCTION for which the original choice of the director was Arjun Kapoor.
"MEERUT JUNCTION is a hardcore cop drama and boasts of a very interesting script. Director Anand Kumar wanted to make the film with Arjun Kapoor and had been pursuing him for about six months. However, post ISHAQZAADE he really got busy. Now that he is working on films like Yash Raj's GUNDAY and AURANGZEB as well as Sajid Nadiadwala's 2 STATES, there are just no dates available with him. Anand felt that instead of waiting for the actor further, it would be in best interest of everyone involved to move on to someone else. This is where Abhishek's name popped up," informs a source.
For Abhishek, who is currently playing the part of a cop in DHOOM 3, a film like MEERUT JUNCTION is being planned as an altogether different experience.
"There are many films where Abhishek has played a cop, whether it is DHOOM series, GAME, DUM MAARO DUM, SHOOTOUT AT LOKHANDWALA or DUS to name a few. However in most of them he comes across as a cool cop with a filmy touch to him. This one would be in a different space altogether as it would be connected to the heartland of the country. It would be rustic and real," the source adds.
When contacted, Anand did confirm that he had Abhishek in mind. However he was conscious about not spilling the beans yet about anything that could have been possibly finalized.
He says, "All I can say for now is that I am approaching Abhishek Bachchan for this. He would suit the role perfectly."
