Akshay's SPECIAL 26 stays on to be 'special'
SPECIAL 26 continue to be one of the preferred choices of audience. After finding some very good appreciation from all quarters and enjoying a good first week at the box office, the film has maintained a steady run in the second week as well. No wonder, Akshay Kumar is basking in the glory of yet another film turning out to be 'special' for him, both critically as well as commercially.
"He has always been picked for doing hardcore 'masala' films. When he tried doing something different with 8X10 TASVEER, everyone knows what happened. Moreover he too got a jolt in his career. Later he did get some appreciation for PATIALA HOUSE which was again a performance oriented film. However since it came too close to TEES MAAR KHAN, the aftermath was felt. Despite the fact that this Nikhil Advani film got some good reviews and Akshay was unanimously appreciated, audience footfalls were quite low. However the turnaround happened with OMG! - OH MY GOD where a right balance was struck," says a source.
Of course in between Akshay did have two back to back 100 crore successes like HOUSEFULL 2 and ROWDY RATHORE. However for those hunting for something different than a 'masala' entertainer from Akshay, the response came in the form of OMG! - OH MY GOD.
"And now there is a repeat of that with SPECIAL 26," says a close associate of the actor, "He was very particular that these two films worked. In his mind he knows that he has to continuing doing commercial films so that everyone benefits from his run. However in his heart, once in a while he wants to do something as niche as this as well. When they turn out to be commercial successes as well, he can further take a call on picking up a film or two belonging to such setting every now and then."
Well, as long as the results are on the lines of OMG! - OH MY GOD and SPECIAL 26, we don't mind!
