How Aamir Khan turned so media-friendly?
Bollywood superstars Shahrukh Khan, who is having a tough time with media these days, and Salman Khan, who has an on-off equation with media and who's known to be not very media-friendly, can take a lesson or two from their colleague Aamir Khan, the perfectionist of Bollywood, on how to win over them!
Today Aamir Khan may share a healthy equation with the fourth estate but there was a time when Aamir was not in their good books. And the actor had to sever his ties.
Says Aamir about his earlier equation with the media, "Right now my rapport with the media is the best...but there was a time when my relations with media had soured. I shared a love-hate relationship with media. Like in every actor's career, there was a phase in my life too when wrong things were written about me. Since media was also evolving at that time and sensationalism was a trend, I too became a soft target of it. And when it started to happen on regular basis I was quite taken aback and deeply hurt. I stopped reacting and detached myself from media because."
However, it was during TAARE ZAMEEN PAR when Aamir came in contact of a certain child psychiatrist to prepare for his film and changed his outlook towards dealing with journos.
"When I was working on the film TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, which deals with children, I happened to meet a child psychiatrist called Dr. Shetty. When I asked him as to what is the basic requirement of a child to flourish, he suggested me four things - that being security from parents, trust and faith between parent-child, dignity towards child and lastly love. And I realized it's not just with Kids it's with every human being. Every human being or every relationship needs these four things. So I gave a thought about my relations with media. I revamped my equation with them by changing my outlook. I took a stand of giving all these four needs - security, trust, dignity and love to media, even if I don't get the same from them. I decided to never sever my relations with media, I will ever trust them despite of all the sensationalism, I will respect media and won't slap or insult them although they get nasty with me and lastly I will give all my love to them. When I started following it, not surprisingly, media's outlook and behaviour towards me changed. That is how I reformed my relations with them. And I would like everyone out there to follow these four things in life and I guarantee that your relation will be salvaged."
