Vibha of BALIKA VADHU in SHYAMLI EK PRATHA
A charming face, a good actress and a household name, Vibha Anand, better known to all the lovers of leading Hindi soap opera, BALIKA VADHU, as 'Suguna', is
now all set to wow the silver screen.
After a great and successful stint on television, the bewitching Vibha has now set her eyes on Bollywood, and it is indeed a great achievement on her part that she has
landed herself a plush role in Bollywood's first zero budget movie, SHYAMLI EK PRATHA, which is being made especially for International film festival circuits like
Berlin, Cannes, Goa etc.
SHYAMLI EK PRATHA is based on a real incident that took place in North India and the film is being produced by Suren Kakkar and Vansh Pathak and the
direction is under the deft handling of the talented Sanjeev Nanda.
Vibha essays the main lead, a highly challenging role, that of a brave young girl who took on the might of the whole village society and lit the pyre of her father, much
against the opposition of the orthodox Indian culture, law and religion and idiosyncrasies of illiterate villagers.
When we got in touch with Vibha, and asked her the reason for choosing SHYAMLI EK PRATHA (instead of a mainstream project) as her cinema debut, she told
us, "Actually, it is a never attempted before subject. Quite like BALIKA VADHU it is realistic. It is about this young girl, who defied the whole village (being the only
scion), and took her father's body on a bullock cart, and later lit the pyre. She was warned not to do so as 'prakop'( curse) would befall the entire village,
still, she went ahead. The incident got a lot of national coverage, so nothing like it to start off in Hindi cinema, which is now coming of age. It may well turn out to be a
revolution for the downtrodden female section of our society, who may get strength after watching the stark truth on celluloid."
The film has already gone on the floors, and we are sure that it will receive huge acclaims as it propagates a strong cause for woman emancipation.
