Ordinary start for AURANGZEB, GO GOA GONE collects 20 crore!

This Friday saw two major releases, Yash Raj Films' AURANGZEB and the Amit Kasaria directed I DON'T LUV U. Unfortunately both have disappointed!

The Rishi Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor, Prithviraj, Swara Bhaskar and Shaseh Agha starrer, AURANGZEB, was expected to open well (given the reasonable hype and good promotion), but the trade was shocked with its 15-25 percent start. Having said that, AURANGZEB (which improved a bit towards the latter shows) will have to show good growth during the weekend to make a mark. The film will need to pull up its socks, especially at the multiplexes, where it is rather low!

The other release of the same week, the Ruslaan Mumtaz and Chetna Pandey starrer, I DON'T LUV U, fared worse with a below 10 percent start.

Meanwhile last Friday's GO GOA GONE managed to hold on to steady collections (though at mid-end), even during the weekdays, thus netting a creditable 20 crore (given the radically new genre) in its first week. Given the very reasonable 9-10 crore budget GO GOA GONE is an average fare, and is likely to improve its rating further once its non-theatrical rights are accounted for. Additionally, despite a disappointing performance in the overseas, the film is likely to end its run grossing in excess of $1m from that circuit.

Concluding with the second release of last Friday, Karan Johar's GIPPI, the film could not quite translate the critical appreciation into numbers and ended the week netting a below par 4.50 crore (to be validated). The only bright spot is that the very low budget will help the makers tide over the losses, more so due to the non-theatrical rights.
