What made Vidya Balan blush?
It was a short skit enacted by Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi, the lead pair of GHANCHAKKAR, at a suburban Mumbai hotel in the presence of the film's unassuming director Raj Kumar Gupta. Vidya plays an overdressed Punjabi housewife called Neetu in the film who is quite frustrated by the selective amnesia of her husband Sanju (Emraan Hashmi), a safe breaker and thief. She is never certain about when Sanju speaks a lie or the truth and to ascertain that she makes him go through a 'lie detector test'.
The enactment was an attempt to highlight the premise of the film that is a unique combination of comedy and suspense thriller according to Vidya Balan. Both the actors performed the skit well to the surprise and delight of the media. Vidya Balan was particularly impressive as an angry, frustrated, and forever-doubting-and-on-the-edge Punjabi housewife. In spite of being a South Indian, she has picked up the nuances of her Punjabi character very well and it seems she will be the toast of the awards season yet again. GHANCHAKKAR is the first comedy of her filmi career and though she had already worked with Raj Kumar Gupta in NO ONE KILLED JESSICA, she took nearly eight months before giving her nod to the film.
During her interaction with the media she spoke at length about why GHANCHAKKAR is unlike any other comedy and about the believability of its realistic and easily relatable characterizations. However, there was one comment that made her blush. While commenting on her performance, an excited young journalist said that though he never liked angry women, she looked still more beautiful as one. Vidya was taken aback by the candid personal comment for a moment, blushed and soon recovered to thank the concerned journalist for his kind and encouraging words.
Produced by Disney - UTV Motion Pictures, GHANCHAKKAR is all set for its theatrical release on 28th June 2013 across India. The film is written by Parvez Sheikh and Raj Kumar Gupta and its music is composed by Amit Trivedi.
