Bollywood box-office report of the week



This Friday will see a healthy sibling rivalry where top bracket actress, Priyanka Chopra's ZANJEER releases alongside promising actress and media savvy Parineeti Chopra's SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE. As far as the buzz is concerned the opening rounds will certainly belong to Yash Raj Films' SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE but the Ram Charan Teja starrer ZANJEER cannot be taken lightly, especially in massy belt and south.

Last week saw the release of Prakash Jha's Amitabh, Ajay, Kareena, Arjun, Manoj and Amrita starrer, SATYAGRAHA. After a decent first day, the film came into its own netting a healthy weekend of 37 crore plus (to be validated). While a good start is half the battle won and so SATYAGRAHA is on a strong pitch, but has to maintain well during the weekdays as well. SATYAGRAHA has done very well in the overseas (good in US) grossing � 115,000 from UK and $ 407,300 from the US during the opening weekend (30th August-1st September).

Meanwhile, Shoojit Sircar's John Abraham starrer, MADRAS CAFE, saw a good weekdays run after a creditable weekend. During the first week, MADRAS CAFE, has netted 35 crore from India and is already an average fare. MADRAS CAFE has also done well in the overseas (could not release in UK) grossing $ 4,10,600 from the US (30August-1st September).

With another 8 crore, OUATIMD has netted 60 crore in two weeks from India crossing its prequel, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI (57 crore). However the heavy costing means that ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI DOBAARA is just about a below average fare. ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI DOBAARA Is fair in the overseas (better in US) grossing � 1,99,748 from UK and $ 4,21,941 from the US till the third weekend (30 August-1st September).

Adding another 16 crore, CHENNAI EXPRESS has netted 209 crore in three weeks from India. The all time blockbuster achieves the distinction of being the highest netter for Hindi cinema beating Aamir Khan's 3 IDIOTS (202 crore). CHENNAI EXPRESS is an overseas blockbuster grossing � 2,086,000 from UK and $ 5,000,000 from the US till the fourth weekend (30August-1st September).
