YRF's SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE scores over Lakhia's ZANJEER

Though a lot will be made about how Parineeti's SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE fared much better than the Priyanka starrer ZANJEER, but it was very much on the cards, as we had indicated in our weekly box-office report.

Coming to the actual stats, Yash Raj Films' Maneesh Sharma directed, SHUDDH DESI ROMANCE, opened to a decent response of 35-40 percent, with the higher occupancies coming from city multiplexes. The single screens though were lower, as was the massy belt. With the word-of-mouth of the actual cinema going audience being encouraging the film saw a further pick up during the latter shows, which is a positive sign.

The second release of the week, the Ram Charan Teja starrer, ZANJEER, fared better at the single screens and the massy belts, with occupancies in the range of 25-30 percent on an average. In case of ZANJEER the word-of-mouth is not encouraging, and so there was no improvement in the collections, which does not augur well for ZANJEER.

Meanwhile, last Friday's Prakash Jha directed Amitabh, Ajay, Kareena, Arjun, Manoj and Amrita starrer, SATYAGRAHA, maintained well during the weekdays, netting a healthy first week in the range of 50-52 crore (to be validated). However the film has to show reasonably strong legs in the second week as well to be termed a genuine success.
