While readers may be aware that to make a living after her father Deenanath Mangeshkar's death Lata Mangeshkar started earning to feed the big family. Renowned actress Nanda's father - Vinayak Rao first offered her an extras role in his Marathi movie PAHILI MANGALAGOUR (1942).Later she acted up to the age of 15 yrs in few movies. Her performance in GAJABHAU (1944) was highly appreciated and she had the honour to act opposite Noorjahaan in BADI MAA (1945)
What may stun readers is that Lata has an amazing hold over music and she has given Music Direction in not one but in many films. In the year 1950, she gave music direction for the movie - RAM RAM PAHUNA with her real name in the credit list. But after this she adopted a pseudonym 'Anandghan' and composed music for many Marathi movies like MOHITYANCHI MANJULA (1962), MARATHA TITUKA MELVAVA (1964), SADHI MANASE (1965), TAMBADI MATI (1969).
Lata has even produced few movies including LEKIN (1990).
Besides movies she is an ace photographer and an excellent cartoonist, which she preserves in her personal diary. It is reported once when actress Nargis happened to see Lata's cartoon she went into peals of laughter!
