Bollywood box-office report of the week



This Friday will witness the release of the Sharman-Soha starrer, WAR CHHOD NA YAAR and ASR Media's BAAT BANN GAYI. Needless to add that the front runner will be India's first war comedy, the Faraz Haider directed WAR CHHOD NA YAAR.

The biggest box-office shock of 2013 has been the performance of Abhinav 'Dabangg' Kashyap's Ranbir Kapoor starrer, BESHARAM. The film was expected to zip past the century mark within no time and become Ranbir's third 100 crore plus venture after BARFI and YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI. Alas, that was not to be, and after a good opening day of around 20 crore plus, the film started sliding heavily from the second day onwards. The opening extended week (9-days) is likely to be around 58-60 crore. BESHARAM has also performed below expectations for a Ranbir Kapoor starrer and a 5-day opening weekend, grossing � 1,81,428 from UK and $5,17,608 from the US (1-5 October).

After a creditable opening weekend Anubhav Sinha's WARNING had to make way for Ranbir's BESHARAM Wednesday onwards, and so the film could not score to its potential as it collected 1 crore from Bombay, 10 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3 lakhs from Surat, 2 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 6.50 lakhs from Pune, 2 lakhs from Nasik, 1.50 lakhs from Goa, 25 lakhs from Delhi city, 3 lakhs from Noida, 5 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2.25 lakhs from Kanpur, 3.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.50 lakhs from Allahabad, 5 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.15 lakhs from Faridabad, 1 lakh from Kurukshetra, 2.25 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1 lakh from Amritsar, 1.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 10 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 2.50 lakhs from Raipur, 3.75 lakhs from Indore (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 1 lakh from Gwalior, 1 lakh from Bhopal (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 5 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 1 lakh from Ajmer, 1.55 lakhs from Kota, 1.55 lakhs from Udaipur, 6.50 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1 lakh from Aurangabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived) and 5 lakhs from Bangalore. Netting a decent (taking into account the limited screening) 4.25 crore during the opening week, WARNING is an average fare.

The other releases of the same week, Veena Malik's SUPER MODEL, the Chandan Roy Sanyal starrer PRAGUE and the Jaideep Chopra directed MAAZII were washouts, with PRAGUE faring the best amongst the three, comparatively.

Moving on, Rajkumar Santoshi's PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO crashed in the second week (barring Bombay) collecting 1.20 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 32 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 17.50 lakhs from Surat, 10.50 lakhs from Baroda , 6 lakhs from Rajkot, 25.25 lakhs from Pune, 6 lakhs from Nasik, 5.75 lakhs from Goa, 2 lakhs from Belgaum, 70 lakhs from Delhi city, 13 lakhs from Noida, 9.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 6.55 lakhs from Kanpur, 14.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.75 lakhs from Agra, 4.15 lakhs from Allahabad, 15 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3 lakhs from Faridabad, 4.50 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 2 lakhs from Panipat, 6.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 2.10 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1 lakh from Amritsar, 3.25 lakhs from Ludhiana, 20 lakhs from Calcutta, 3 lakhs from Siliguri, 1.75 lakhs from Ranchi, 3.50 lakhs from Bhubhaneshwar, 1 lakh from Guwahati, 6.15 lakhs from Nagpur, 6 lakhs from Jabalpur, 7 lakhs from Raipur, 13.50 lakhs from Indore, 3 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 4.25 lakhs from Bhopal, 45 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Ajmer, 1.75 lakhs from Bikaner, 4.50 lakhs from Kota, 5 lakhs from Udaipur, 6 lakhs from Hyderabad, 2.15 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived) and 8.75 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 6.50 crore the Shahid Kapoor starrer, PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO, has netted 38 crore in two weeks from India and is an average fare, as most non-theatrical rights have already fetched handsome prices. PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO though has disappointed in the overseas grossing � 153,000 from UK and $78,000 from the US till the third weekend (3-5 October).

Meanwhile Ritesh Batra's Irrfan-Nawazuddin starrer, THE LUNCHBOX, managed a rock steady second week, thanks to the multiplexes and the intrinsic merits as it collected 1.50 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 17 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 4.50 lakhs from Surat, 5.50 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 36.50 lakhs from Pune, 2.50 lakhs from Nasik, 4 lakhs from Goa, 1.15 crore from Delhi city, 20 lakhs from Noida, 9 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3 lakhs from Kanpur, 8 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.50 lakhs from Allahabad, 30 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.65 lakhs from Faridabad, 7.65 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 30 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Siliguri, 1.25 lakhs from Ranchi, 3.75 lakhs from Bhubhaneshwar, 1.75 lakhs from Guwahati, 5.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 2 lakhs from Jabalpur, 2.75 lakhs from Raipur, 8.25 lakhs from Indore , 1.75 lakh from Gwalior, 4.65 lakhs from Bhopal, 10 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1.25 lakhs from Kota, 1.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 15 lakhs from Hyderabad, 55 lakhs from Bangalore, 1 lakh from Mangalore, 2.50 lakhs from Madras and 1.75 lakhs from Kochi. With another 7.50 crore THE LUNCHBOX has netted a very creditable 19 crore in two weeks from India and is a semi-hit.

The 'masti' continues for Indra Kumar's Vivek, Ritesh and Aftab starrer, GRAND MASTI, as the film managed to add more to its kitty collecting 65 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 30 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5.25 lakhs from Surat, 4.50 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 6 cinemas unreceived), 4.55 lakhs from Rajkot, 14.25 lakhs from Pune, 4.65 lakhs from Nasik, 2 lakhs from Belgaum, 90 lakhs from Delhi city, 8 lakhs from Noida, 9.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 9.65 lakhs from Kanpur, 13.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.50 lakhs from Agra, 2.75 lakhs from Allahabad, 6.15 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.50 lakh from Kurukshetra, 4.50 lakhs from Panipat, 5.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 4.15 lakhs from Jalandhar, 5.75 lakhs from Amritsar, 3.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 2.50 lakhs from Bhatinda, 1 lakh from Jammu, 15 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Siliguri, 1 lakh from Dhanbad, 1.50 lakhs from Bhubhaneshwar, 10.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 4.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 5.50 lakhs from Raipur, 8.25 lakhs from Indore (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), , 2 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 10 lakhs from Bhopal, 25 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 7 cinemas unreceived), 2.15 lakhs from Jodhpur, 2.10 lakhs from Ajmer, 2 lakhs from Bikaner, 4.75 lakhs from Kota, 4.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 10 lakhs from Hyderabad, 4 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived) and 10 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 7 crore GRAND MASTI has netted 90 crore in three weeks from India and is a super duper hit. GRAND MASTI is decent in the overseas grossing � 195,000 from UK and $407,000 from the US till the fourth weekend (3-5 October).
