Sonam Kapoor to have costume budget of just 5 lakhs for KHUBSOORAT
Oh, what a shift! For someone who comes with a tag of being a 'Fashionista', Sonam Kapoor has been revelling in this image ever since the days of AISHA when she was first seen in this expansive 'avtar'. With costumes worth lakhs being procured from the best of the international labels, Sonam has been pretty much a trendsetter as far as stylized costumes not quite following Bollywood norms is concerned.
All of that and more would change with KHUBSOORAT, her next film that goes on floors in November, which has a clothes budget of - hold your breath - a mere 5 lakhs.
"It has been a call taken by sister and producer Rhea Kapoor along with Sonam herself," informs a common friend, "It is going to be a complete shift for Sonam who has otherwise dealt with costumes worth lakhs in the past, including AISHA. The sisters felt though that the USP of KHUBSOORAT lied in its simplicity and it didn't make sense to invest in a cost that didn't hold any meaning in the film's context."
As a result, even though clothing budget of any A league actresses ranges from 75 lakhs to 1 crore due to brands and styling, Sonam's budget for KHUBSOORAT won't cross 5 lakhs.
"For most part of the film, she would be seen wearing Track Pants and T-Shirts. As a result the budget would be totally under control. In fact this is the lowest that Sonam has ever spent on her clothes in any of the films, right from the fantastical world of SAAWARIYA to the realistic set up of BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG where she was seen in suit-salwars," adds a source.
For someone who has time and again won audience whenever she has taken a simplistic route (DELHI 6, RAANJHANAA, BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG), one waits to see if the trend would continue with KHUBSOORAT. Since she is playing a physiotherapist in the film, one does wonder why not!
