Kajol, Zeenat Aman inspires KILL THE RAPIST? leading lady
Looking at work of other actors for inspiration isn't an alien concept. However it was an altogether different ballgame for Anjali Patil (seen as a Naxalite in Prakash Jha's CHAKRAVYUH) when she was preparing for the part of a victim turned aggressor in KILL THE RAPIST?. Since the 'Anti-Rape' film is pretty layered and required the central protagonist to seep in the complex take on the state of affairs, she was suggested by her producer-director team of Siddhartha M Jain and Sanjay Chhel to refer performances of some other notable actors who were required to get into a similar mindset.
"Some of the key Indian names that came into consideration were Kajol and Zeenat Aman for the work they had done in DUSHMAN and INSAF KA TARAZU respectively," informs a source, "In a double role, Kajol had played a rape victim as well as her twin sister who took revenge on the rapist. There were quite a few layers that Kajol had explored and Anjali gained a lot from observing her performance in the film."
On the other hand Zeenat Aman too had played the victim of sexual assault in INSAAF KA TARAZU and the B.R. Chopra directed film was centered on how she took revenge on her tormentor (Raj Babbar).
When contacted, Anjali said, "These actresses have played so many different kind of roles and hence there is so much to learn. I did realise that these were not easy characters to portray. Hence when I was shooting for KILL THE RAPIST?, I wanted to get it perfectly right. When you are stepping into an alien world, it is all the more important to grasp the character right so that it doesn't come across as caricature."
We would want to see it for ourselves when the film releases all over in December.
