Arshad Warsi: I am the King of debutant directors

In a career spanning close to 45 films, Arshad Warsi is now giving break to 15th new director Samir Tewari with MR. JOE B CARVALHO. This comes to an average of every third film of his being directed by a first timer - A remarkable feat indeed, considering he has worked with some of the best filmmakers in the business.

Interestingly, filmmakers like Rajkumar Hirani, Madhur Bhandarkar and Kabir Khan were rank newcomers when Arshad consented to step in for MUNNABHAI MBBS, TRISHAKTI and KABUL EXPRESS respectively.

"Well, I am the King of debutant directors," smiles Arshad, "If I see that they have something interesting to offer, I go with them."

Of course when it came to MUNNABHAI MBBS and KABUL EXPRESS, it was brand Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Yash Chopra that came into play as well. However, none of these films were safe on paper; still Arshad did them.

On the flip side, there were seven-eight other debutant filmmakers as well with whom Arshad didn't have that much look.

"An actor mainly goes by the gut instinct. Kai logo ki life maine bana di hai aur kayi logo ne meri barbaad bhi kari hai," laughs Arshad in his characteristic humour, "At times, some established directors too have taken me for a ride big time. That happens."

However when it comes to MR. JOE B CARVALHO, Arshad is confident that with debutant Samir, he would indeed have a winner in hands. That is pretty much reflected in the promotional spree that he is indulging in for the film which releases all over on 3rd January.
