Salman Khan revives the Aam Aadmi after Amitabh Bachchan

It is the flavor of the season, Aam Aadmi and how could the Hindi cinema have been aloof from it. After selling candy floss for quite a long time the cinematic fraternity has also realized that once it starts focusing on the issues vexing the common man in his day-to-day struggle, the outreach of the cinema and the footfalls increase in quadratic proportions. 2014 indeed is going to be the year when the angst and struggle of the common man- which incidentally was the punch line that Shahrukh Khan had used for his CHENNAI EXPRESS, are going to find cinematic expression and identity through the mainstream actors and the agenda for the year is going to be set by Salman Khan through his JAI HO.

From the mainstream actors perspective, if one were to walk back into the annals of history to find out who was the first actor who took up the cause, it is Big B who turned to the common man when he wanted to go in for the change in his image with MAIN AZAAD HOON, but somehow the occasion was not perhaps opportune, and therefore the film could not make much wave, though the performance of Big B was appreciated quite a lot.

It has to do with the prevailing mood of the times perhaps and as it is the flavor of the season, the Aam Aadmi that is, though Sohail Khan may not have been guided by this flavor of the season, but would consider it as an ominous portent for his Salman starrer JAI HO, which has dialogues that underline the power of the Aam Aadmi. If the wolf whistles and the claps from the multiplex audience viewing the trailer of JAI HO as an index of identification with the issue is concerned, then one can say with conviction that JAI HO is going to be a force to be reckoned with at the box office in 2014.

As a matter of fact the immense popularity that Hindi cinema enjoyed with the masses was on account of the fact that Hindi cinema was at the forefront of identifying and flagging the issues that concerned the common man and it has again started veneering around to the concern again. With Salman Khan taking the lead, it would force other filmmakers also to start focusing on the issues concerning the common man and this indeed would be the change that could perhaps help in facilitating a paradigm shift for the film industry that it has been searching for. JAI HO to this initiation of change.
