Adhyayan Suman: There is no advantage of being a star son
His last film JASHNN may not have performed well at the box-office, but that didn't deter the actor a bit. In fact, he has emerged stronger and better, what with his second innings in Bollywood kick-starting with his actor-turned-director father, Shekhar Suman's directorial debut HEARTLESS, slated to release this week.
In a small tte--tte with this charming lad, we talk about his come-back film, pros and cons of being a star son and why he took so long to zoom back on-screen.
What took him so long to spring back on the big screen? "Unfortunately JASHNN didn't do well at the box-office. And in our film industry, if you don't do well even in one film, people start to write your obituary and that is really sad. And the fact remains that I didn't get films or for that matter, even scripts. And HEARTLESS took time because everything is done by us. And good films take time. We don't have any big production house backing us. And it was a difficult film to make in terms of finance, production etc.," reveals Adhyayan.
Born into a star family and with dad Shekhar Suman in the industry for almost two decades, getting films should have been rather easier, given the advantage of being a star son? "Do you think it was easy for me to get films in this industry? Did you see me in films for the past three years? The truth is that there is no advantage of being a star son, except in the first film. But beyond that, nothing," retorts Suman Junior.
Rather, he feels that it is more of a disadvantage to be a star kid, as there are plenty of expectations from them. Says Adhyayan, "Instead of the advantage, it is more of a pressure to be a star kid. The star kid is always made to feel that Arre tu kyu paida hua star ke ghar pe? Like Kyon? It is only for the initial two minutes that you get the recognition of being someone's son. But apart from that people really don't care whose son you are. You have to prove yourself. On the contrary, I feel that it is way easier for people who are not from the industry to make it big. A star kid is always a victim of comparison, as they are always equaled to their father or mother. So yeah, there is immense pressure!"
Does this pressure affect him? "No! This pressure doesn't affect me. I have many who give me love and support to let me prove myself. So individually speaking, I am unaffected by this pressure," states Suman.
HEARTLESS, starring Adhyayan Suman and Ariana Ayam is slated to release on February 7, 2014 and is directed by actor-turned-director Shekhar Suman.
