FUGLY disappoints, 68 crore week for Akshay Kumar's HOLIDAY!

This week saw multiple releases in the form of Grazing Goat Pictures' FUGLY, the Deepak Dobriyal starrer CHAL BHAAG, Zafar Shah's UNFORGETTABLE and Swara Bhaskar's paranormal thriller MACHHLI JAL KI RANI HAI etc.

The front runner was obviously the Akshay Kumar produced FUGLY with around 15-20 percent start, which is a disappointment given the hype and promotion. The film can still hope for a pick up during the weekend. The remaining releases were all below the 10 percent mark and have little or no chances.

Meanwhile last week's Vipul Shah produced and A. R. Murugadoss directed Akshay-Sonakshi starrer, HOLIDAY - A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY, moved from strength-to-strength as the days progressed, and ended the week with the best Thursday collections (surpassing 2 STATES) of 2014!

The film netted 68 crores (to be validated) during the opening week from India. Given the strong numbers on its second Friday, HOLIDAY is on way to a 100 crore plus venture and a solo Akshay Kumar hit (ROWDY RATHORE -2012) after a while!

Concluding with the other release of last Friday, FILMISTAAN, the film did get its fair share of admirers, but as we had suspected, the heat generated by HOLIDAY was too much for it to handle. All the same FILMISTAAN managed a 5 crore opening week haul, which is not bad under the circumstances!
