Bollywood box-office report of the week

This Friday will see a clash between mass and class! Confused? Well it will be Sanjay Dutt's ZILA GHAZIABAD taking on UTV Spotboy's KAI PO CHE! As per the buzz ZILA GHAZIABAD is likely to impress in the massy areas of the Hindi belt (U.P. Bihar, M.P. and Rajasthan) while the Abhishek Kapoor directed KAI PO CHE! is sure to impress in Gujarat, Maharashtra and parts of South, and also at the high end multiplexes of A centers. The film has all it takes to be a surprise success in the overseas and in particular the US, thanks mainly to the Gujarati diaspora.

Last week's two major releases were Vishesh Films' next in the MURDER franchise, MURDER 3, and Tips Music Films' JAYANTABHAI KI LUV STORY. The two films were not expected to embark on a big initial; still the dull to poor start was somewhat of a shock. While the Randeep-Aditi starrer MURDER 3 netted around 11 crore during the opening weekend, Vivek-Neha's JAYANTABHAI KI LUV STORY was much lower at around 2.50 crore, during the same period. As things stand, despite the absence of 'Murder man' Emraan Hashmi, MURDER 3 will scrape through to safety, thanks to a low budget and good non-theatrical rights. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about JAYANTABHAI KI LUV STORY!

Checking out Neeraj Pandey's SPECIAL 26, after a slowish start, the film went from strength to strength (thanks to some rock steady weekdays) as it collected 6.50 crore from Bombay, 1.75 crore from Ahmedabad, 55 lakhs from Baroda, 2 crore from Pune, 20.65 lakhs from Nasik, 4.65 crore from Delhi city, 70 lakhs from Noida, 42 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 30 lakhs from Kanpur, 55.65 lakhs from Lucknow, 15.50 lakhs from Agra, 14.50 lakhs from Allahabad, 5 lakhs from Meerut, 4 lakhs from Aligarh, 90 lakhs from Gurgaon, 15 lakhs from Faridabad, 5.15 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 7.50 lakhs from Panipat, 18 lakhs from Chandigarh, 16.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 5.65 lakhs from Amritsar, 3 lakhs from Jammu, 1 crore from Calcutta, 7.65 lakhs from Siliguri, 7.50 lakhs from Dhanbad, 3.50 lakhs from Ranchi, 6.50 lakhs from Guwahati, 50 lakhs from Nagpur, 15.20 lakhs from Jabalpur, 28.50 lakhs from Raipur, 65 lakhs from Indore (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 10.50 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 25 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 90 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 8.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 7 lakhs from Bikaner, 16.65 lakhs from Kota, 12 lakhs from Udaipur, 75 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.15 crore from Bangalore, 2 lakhs from Vijayawada, 5.25 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 5.50 lakhs from Madras and 4 lakhs from Kochi. Netting 40 crore during the opening week from India, the Anupam, Akshay, Manoj and Kajal starrer, SPECIAL 26, is on way to be another prestige success for the lead actor. The film is also quite steady in the overseas (good in US) grossing 198,000 from UK and $855,000 from the US till the second weekend (15-17 February).

Meanwhile Prabhudheva's ABCD-ANY BODY CAN DANCE has also put up an impressive show with a steady weekday run and collected 4.50 crore from Bombay(collections from other cinemas unreceived), 90 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 40.15 lakhs from Baroda, 80 lakhs from Pune, 23 lakhs from Nasik, 1.85 crore from Delhi city, 23 lakhs from Noida, 16.55 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 11.35 lakhs from Kanpur, 16.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 6 lakhs from Agra, 5 lakhs from Allahabad, 1.10 lakhs from Meerut, 1 lakh from Aligarh, 27 lakhs from Gurgaon, 5 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.65 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 2.65 lakhs from Panipat, 7 lakhs from Chandigarh, 7.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 3 lakhs from Jammu, 60 lakhs from Calcutta, 9.50 lakhs from Siliguri, 4.50 lakhs from Dhanbad, 1.50 lakhs from Ranchi, 7 lakhs from Guwahati, 45 lakhs from Nagpur, 7.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 20.50 lakhs from Raipur, 30 lakhs from Indore, 2.55 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 10 lakhs from Bhopal, 35.55 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 7.65 lakhs from Ajmer, 1.75 lakhs from Bikaner, 12.50 lakhs from Kota, 7.35 lakhs from Udaipur, 40 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1 crore from Bangalore, 4 lakhs from Vijayawada and 7 lakhs from Visakhapatnam.
