How Lahore came to life in Delhi for 'The Reluctant...'
New Delhi: Due to logistical issues, Mira Nair faced an uphill task to recreate Lahore in Delhi, when she planned to shoot parts of her upcoming film 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' in Pakistan.
"Creating Lahore in Delhi was not very difficult. We found this gem of a place called the Anglo-Arabic Islamic School right in the heart of Old Delhi which dates back to the 16th century," she said.
According to Moes-art, the director had populated the place with every little details of Lahore to give a proper mood and setting for the film.
"Spiritually it's the same as Lahore. It's not like shooting Palestine in Morocco," she said.
Production Designer of the film, Michael Carlin said, "the school occupies the site of an old mogul palace and houses a beautiful red sandstone mosque from the late mogul period."
"Here, in the heart of Old Delhi, we could build our street for the exterior teahouse and utilize the skyline of Old Delhi to stand in for Lahore. Even better, by lining up our set next to the school gates we could connect our 'back lot' set to the hectic junction of Ajmeri Gate and connect it to the 'real' world outside," he said.
'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' is a touching and engaging story of a young man chasing corporate success on Wall Street.
Post September 2011 tragedy in America, he finds himself embroiled in a conflict between his American Dream, a hostage crisis, and the enduring call of his family's homeland.
The film stars Kate Hudson, Kiefer Sutherland, Liev Schreiber, Riz Ahmed, Shabana Azmi and Om Puri.
