"It is great honour to be here. The whole idea of coming to India is to connect with something that I learned, and that is spiritual principles. Yes American children are very much invested in material but India has something that we need and that is called spiritual awareness," he said.
"So when I play music, it's more than Mexican or American or Cubic. We come here to re-connect with your heart (Indians) that remind you something that we learned from you," Santana said while addressing the media here.
The 65-year-old, who is being brought here by event management company DNA Entertainment, played at F1 Rocks with Vladivar in New Delhi on Sunday and in Bangalore on Friday.
Dressed in white printed shirt and trousers, with a black hat atop, Santana was accompanied by his wife Cindy Blackman.
"I feel inspired, grateful and honoured to be performing in India. I am looking forward to the colours, textures and sounds of this beautiful country. I am sure it will be a pleasure to meet Indian music enthusiasts and present my music live to them for the very first time," he said.
He rose to fame in the late 1960s and carved a niche for himself by playing bluesy guitar riffs set against Latin and jazz fusion. “Black Magic Woman" was the song that won them recognition.
Santana says that he also want people to realise that music can actually help in healing the pains and can help in achieving a prosperous country.
"We want to make music to heal this planet especially people's consciousness. Music helps in honouring, respecting women and children so that we can stop the war all over the world. We want to remind people all over the world that music also helps in motivating us to take responsibility for this wonderful world," he said.
Asked if he is open with the idea of collaborating with Indian music industry, he said “why not”.
"I am open to collaborate with females or males from India as long as it is from the heart and the song is correct," said Santana, who is in love with Mango Lassi and spicy Indian food especially South Indian dishes.
