Melbourne: Will Smith has revealed that he turned down the part of Django Freeman, played by Jamie Foxx, in Quentin Tarantino's 'Django Unchained' because it was not the lead role in the film.

He told Entertainment Weekly that it wasn't the lead and he needed to be the lead.

The other character of bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz played by Christoph Waltz, according to him was the lead, News.au magazine reported.

Smith said he tried to convince Tarantino to give Django a more central role in the film.

"I was like, 'No, Quentin, please, I need to kill the bad guy!'" he said.
