I've portrayed role of ill-fated actor truthfully: Dileep

The actor was talking to reporters at a Meet-The-Press programme organised by Ernakulam Press Club in Kochi.
When asked about veteran actor Thilakan's criticism that his performance was only a 'mimicry' act and the award should have gone to Mohanlal for his role in 'Pranayam', Dileep said Thilakan is a very senior and great actor, while he was just a beginner compared to him.
The award is an "encouragement" for him, Dileep said, adding he does not know how many of his films the veteran actor had seen. "I have seen my seniors act and have learnt from them," he said.
Dileep said he had tried to get the rights of Bollywood film 'Vicky Donor', the subject of which is sperm donation, but had not decided if he should do the film. "The subject is totally different," he said.
On new generation films doing very well, he said it was good that different types of films were coming out and were being welcomed by the people.
Asked about National award winner Salim Kumar's view that 'Pranayam' was a copy of an Australian film, he said everyone has freedom of expression.
"Salim Kumar is a close friend and I have discussed this with him personally. But throwing mud at each other is not the right thing to do", he said.
Asked whether he would turn director, the actor said it would not be soon. But eventually he would like to direct.
On his recent meeting with megastar Amitabh Bachchan for an advertisement shoot, he said that it was a memorable moment to stand near Big B, talk to him and get photographed.
