Sathyaraj turns to ‘villainy’
Sathyaraj, who had been stoutly resisting big offers to play villain roles, has agreed to play the ‘hated’ role at last. In a Telugu film with Gopichand as hero, the veteran would play the villain, it is reported. The rumourmills say that the actor gave his consent as he has no other offers on hand.
Sathyaraj, pushing sixty, was initially offered the villain role in ‘Sivaji: The Boss’, which later went to Suman. He was also offered a meaty role in Kamal’s ‘Dasavatharam’. But Sathyaraj had reportedly made fun of the offers saying that he would accept them if either Kamal or Rajni played ‘villain’ in one of his films.
The ‘U’ turn by Sathyaraj shows just how fickle luck in films is, say old timers in the industry. Kodambakkam circles are abuzz with the rumour that Sathyaraj is badly in need of the Rs.30 lakh he would get for the villain’s role in the Telugu movie. Taking a cue from his father, Sibiraj is also playing villain in ‘Naanayam’.
