'Kamal Hassan doesn't believe in auditioning actors'

FTII alumnus Jaideep Ahlawat is visibly excited these days. The talented actor, who started off his career with Priyadarshan's 'Aakrosh' and 'Khatta Meetha', will now play a negative role in Kamal Hassan's forthcoming film 'Vishwaroopam'. Jaideep has also acted in Anurag Kashyap's 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and Bedabrato Pain's 'Chittagong', which are complete.

Jaideep, who graduated from FTII in 2008, says, "Hassan was looking for an actor who can speak Hindi and Tamil. When I went to meet him in Chennai, he cast me in the film without an audition, as he had seen my work in 'Khatta Meetha'. Later, I got to know that he doesn't believe in auditioning actors and relies on his gut feeling while casting them. My physique and the way I look fitted the role perfectly."

For Jaideep, working with Hassan was like a dream come true. "Working with Hassan is a great experience. He is one of the finest actors in our country. He loves to improvise on the sets and talks with actors about their characters. Though he is a senior actor and filmmaker, new actors like me feel relaxed with him. He knows a lot about the technical aspects of filmmaking. He is clear about what he wants from the film," says the actor.

Talking about his character, Jaideep says, "I play an out-and-out negative character who regales in his negativity."

Jaideep will also be seen in a guest appearance in Imtiaz Ali's much talked about film 'Rockstar'. "I am playing Ranbir Kapoor's elder brother, who hails from a Haryanvi family staying in Delhi. The character runs his family business and is responsible and protective of his kin. It was nice working with Imtiaz. He is an approachable and humble person, as well as a hands-on director. He supports his actors. I admire him as a filmmaker and would love to work with him in the future."
