New Delhi: Vidya Balan-starrer 'Kahaani' that broke many box-office records is now being remade in Tamil and Telugu. Sekhar Kammula, who will direct the southern versions, is delighted to be part of the projects.
"'Kahaani' is a brilliant work of cinema and I am delighted to be part of this recreation. It is a character-driven script and the characterisation will have local appeal," Kammula said in a statement.
In the original, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, Vidya played a software programmer. She comes to Kolkata from London in search of her husband, who is the father of her unborn child.
"Our adaptation will retain the thrill and essence of the original, but will also add a unique dimension to the film," said Kammula, recipient of National Film Award and the Nandi Awards.
His 2007 film 'Happy Days' was well-received by the audiences and trade analysts.
Endemol India, producers of popular shows 'Bigg Boss', 'Fear Factor', and 'Savdhaan India', have acquired the rights for the southern remake in association with Moving Pictures.
Currently both the production houses are in talks with a couple of renowned actors from South to essay the powerful characters.
Renowned novelist, Yandamoori Veerendranath, will co-write the adaptation along with Kammula.
