Kamal to open Chennai International Film Fest
Chennai: Kamal Haasan, Aamir Khan and other top personalities of the Indian film industry will attend the inaugural ceremony of 11th Chennai International Film Festival on December 12.
The eight-day event will witness the screening over 170 films from 55 countries, with special focus on award-winning movies from international film festivals such as Cannes, Berlin and Venice.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Thursday evening, actress Suhasini Maniratnam, one of the organisers of the event, said the festival screenings will be held at five venues.
"The festival functions will witness active participation from the film fraternity, corporate houses, consulates and embassies and prominent chennaites, besides a large number of movie buffs," she said.
Twelve Tamil films will compete for the CIFF Award for Best Film (Director & Producer), Second Best Film (Director & Producer) & the Special Jury Award.
Popular Malayalam actor Mohanlal, who is one of the jury members for the Tamil feature film competition, will attend the festival’s closing function.
