Mohanlal to adopt a "mother in distress"
The national award-winning actor, who has endeared the movie buffs through a handful of ideal son roles, would bear all the expenses of the "adopted mother", said the organisers of the initiative.
Under the programme, 500 mothers of above 70 years of age, would be selected from Kodungallore in Thrissur district, said Congress MLA T N Prathapan, the initiator of the scheme.
Selected senior citizens in the region would be provided with medical and financial assistance also, he said.
"Actor Mohanlal will be the chief patron of our initiative. He will participate in various campaigns related to the programme urging children to look after their parents. He will also adopt an aged mother and bear her expenses," Prathapan said.
The beneficiaries would be selected after assessing factors like their family and financial whereabouts. They would be given Rs 500 each every month as financial aid, he added.
