Fusion, synthesis – potato, potaeto

Ilaiyaraaja, sir, what was your reaction when the die-hard Tamil musicians of your time, who revelled in their largely imitable style of folklore, dappankoothu and classical ragas, turned to your brand of music - that fusion of many styles - and said you were a corrupting influence? Did you brush it away when, despite your popularity, you were often discussed by those doyens as a man who mixes musical styles with scant regard for accepted traditions?
