Choice of roles

Mammootty, like most master builders, has always seemed to have an eye on the bigger picture. Even as he doled out dates to directors who wanted him to play characters out of the stern cop-savvy lawyer-hero with the rough exterior assembly line, the actor kept pushing the envelope by wooing major filmmakers like Adoor Gopalakrishnan and T V Chandran. Many actors fall into the trap of doing a good thing over and over again; Mammootty avoided the pitfall deftly.
