Acclaim

Penelope too has suffered similar fate. She had won many awards for her Spanish performances before turning to English, but she had to work through the same system of prejudice to get her share of acclaim and fame in Hollywood. She gained fame for her work in films such as 'Vanilla Sky' and 'Blow' but she had to wait till 2006 and Pedro Almodóvar's 'Volver' to finally earn the respect she deserves. In 2008, she became the first Spanish actress to win an Oscar for her role in 'Vicky Christina Barcelona' and in April 2011, she became the first Spanish actress to get a star on Hollywood's Walk Of Fame.
