Salma works towards increasing awareness of violence against women and also against racial discrimination. She has donated vast sums to charity organisations. She is the global spokesperson for the Pampers/UNICEF partnership 1 Pack = 1 Vaccine to help raise awareness and to help stop the spread of life-threatening maternal and neonatal tetanus. She supports campaigns that insist breastfeeding children; she even breast fed a hungry baby in Sierra Leone.
