I was never a struggler, says Ayushmann Khurana

Actor Ayushmann Khurana struck gold with his debut film where he played the role of a sperm donor. The actor, who was widely appreciated for his role in 'Vicky Donor' says his journey to films has been gradual.

I was never a struggler, says Ayushmann Khurana

"I waited for four years for the right script to come my way and I am glad I got this film because it was a conscious decision to only do good work. I am glad I made the right choice and I'm fortunate to have got the perfect script to begin my career with," says the young actor.

Though it has been a couple of months, since the film released, Ayushmann says that the euphoria hasn't died down as yet. Ask him if he did expect such a great response and he says, "With this film, the subject was the real hero. I knew and was absolutely sure that the film would work because of the quirkiness but I wasn't expecting it to be on this scale."

Considering that his very first film did good business, there is bound to be a certain amount of pressure on him to deliver. But Ayushmann says the pressure is welcome. "Every actor waits for that day when people start having expectations from you. My first film was a hit, so I will give my 100% to each film I do after this," he says.

However, had the film been a flop, Ayushmann says he wouldn't have given up hopes. "I am a very practical person. I have a degree in journalism and I have dabbled in theatre, television and radio, so I would have been working in either fields. Also I didn't choose 'Vicky Donor' out of desperation. I was a successful theatre artist but I have always harboured ambitions of being an actor, ever since I was young so that way, I was quite happy and secure in my own space."

Also, the young actor admits that producer, actor John Abraham has been a great source of inspiration.

"John and I are similar in some ways. A couple of years ago, John was exactly where I was. So he has been there, done that. Also, we are both outsiders in Bollywood."
