Back then, Mandira and other girls had to jump off from a height of 15 feet onto two thin coir mattresses. A doctor present on the sets asked her to use ice but thereafter Bedi allegedly was left on her own. She went to the hospital by herself where subsequent x-rays revealed fracture to the right ankle. She had to undergo a surgery where seven plates were fitted to hold the bone.
While the fracture has begun to heal, Bedi is disappointed with the callous attitude of channel officials. In spite of the injury Bedi had turned up for the finale episode of the show where host Akshay Kumar described her injury as 'zara si moch'.(a little sprain)
'What zara si moch? If this happened to Akshay Kumar would the channel have washed their hands of it then?" Bedi told a prominent newspaper.
The actress has been forced to take this step because the channel hadn't responded to her notice earlier. She wants an apology from the channel and an acknowledgment that there was medical negligence and violation of safety measures.
Meanwhile, a Colors spokesperson was quoted in the same report saying, "We're' surprised on receiving this notice from Mandira and our lawyers are in the process of responding to this notice. The fact is that she voluntarily opted to do the jump and all due care was taken during all the rehearsals of the show, to ensure the safety of all participants. For unforeseen incidents, there was an ambulance and doctor on stand-by, always. It was unfortunate that she hurt herself during one of the rehearsal drills while adequate first-aid was offered to her on site. We also offered to pick up her medical expenses for this injury. We're willing to reimburse her medical expenses now as well as and when we receive the bills from her. After doing all this, her behaviour leaves us amazed.
